Boston Cosmetic Specialists is the premier body sculpting and facial rejuvenation practice in New England. Our founder, Dr. Edwin Ishoo, is a board certified surgeon with extensive experience in minimally invasive cosmetic procedures specializing in laser assisted liposuction and ultrasound assisted liposuction. At our center we feature Smartlipo Triplex®, the most advanced laser lipolysis technology in the world, in addition to VASER® LipoSelection, and CoolSculpting making us the only center in the Greater Boston and South Shore areas to offer all 3 modalities. This allows us to provide our clients with a wide range of options depending on their aesthetic needs.
The staff at BCS strive to ensure that all patients are adequately educated about their diagnosis and the procedures they desire, so that they can make an informed decision that is right for them. Dr Edwin Ishoo is dedicated to helping our clients achieve their aesthetic goals safely. Our practice is focused on listening to our clients’ needs, and customizing their aesthetic treatments that best fit their lifestyle. We strive to provide our clients with individualized attention and professionalism in seeking the natural looking results that surpass their expectations.
Recognizing the importance of this sophisticated method of body sculpting for his clientele, Dr. Edwin Ishoo, who has performed hundreds of Smartlipo Triplex® and VASER® Liposelection procedures with great results, studied at the Advanced Body Sculpting Institute in Colorado and Bogota, Colombia receiving extensive hands-on training in this advanced technique with Dr. Millard and Dr. Hoyos. To date, fewer than 100 surgeons have been trained in the world, with only a handful practicing in the U.S. Dr. Ishoo is the first and only surgeon qualified to perform the Smartlipo Triplex® Hi Def and VASER® Hi Def Liposculpture in Massachussets. The VASER® ultrasound technology combined with an aesthetic appreciation for the human anatomy and an experienced liposuction surgeon allows for spectacular results to which nothing else even comes close. The success of VASER® Hi Def requires that the surgeon have well-trained hands and an artful eye.
CoolSculpting® is a revolutionary non-surgical contouring treatment that freezes stubborn fat, which then is naturally eliminated from your body. No needles, no special diets, no supplements, no surgery. And most importantly, no downtime!

Your skin is the largest organ of your body, and its importance can’t be understated. It’s the barrier that protects you from the outside world – it’s your body’s canvas – quite literally, your skin is how you touch the world.
We recognize how vital skin can be, and how vital it is to care for skin well. Our focus is on keeping your skin healthy, vibrant, beautiful, and amazing. Your skin is unique to you, more than a fingerprint, and it must be dealt with in a manner that recognizes all of this. You could say we go beyond skin care, in fact, and that for us the practice is skin reverence.
In founding our practice Dr. Edwin Ishoo looked beyond what other cosmetic practices and med spas offer. He started with skin – just skin – and added to that a deep focus on how great that skin can be. Because of this we’re not like anywhere else in Greater Boston and we’re far ahead of traditional facilities.
As an experience and skilled cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Ishoo focuses his practice on the following procedures:
Choosing to have cosmetic procedures is an important decision. The so called “Medical Spas” owned and operated by a non-physician are in fact illegal especially if not registered as a medical clinic by the Department of Public Health. This registration is required even if it is partially owned by a non-physician. Physicians renting out their medical license to these businesses especially as the unqualified staff makes diagnosis and treats medical conditions with medical grade prescriptive treatments such as IPL, LASERs, injectables etc. may constitute violation of the Corporate Practice of Medicine law enforced in all 50 states and in fact is a serious conflict of interest when a physician’s employers are practicing medicine under the physician’s license motivated only by profit and the physician can never make a decision contrary to the owner’s best financial motive since they are not actually on the premises. All diagnosis and treatment planning MUST be done by a physician, not by an esthetician or a nurse. There is no such certification as a “Medical aesthetician”, “LASER technician” or “Acne specialist” recognized by any professional licensing agency in Massachusetts. In fact, any practice of medicine by an aesthetician is strictly forbidden by the MA Board of Cosmetology. By definition, if the procedure causes burning, discoloration, deep tissue collage stimulation, bleeding or even extraction of a deep acne cyst is considered practice of medicine. When a non-physician, such as an aesthetician or nurse is in effect practicing medicine by performing the initial diagnosis, treatment planning and administers prescriptive medical treatment without a physician on site or specific physician order or prescription, it is considered practice of medicine without a license which is being aided and abetted by the physician paid to serve as the (no show) Medical Director. The term “Medical Director“, is in fact not a clinical term but an administrative term. In the overwhelming number of “medspas” in Massachusetts which are owned by non-physicans some with questionable backgrounds, there is never a physician to see the patients at the time of diagnosis, treatment planning or complications. The term “Med” in medspa has been made obsolete by this reckless, greed-driven and dangerous practice. This type of practice is illegal in many states and should be illegal in all states to protect the unsuspecting public from risk to their health. The practice of medicine applies to any action that injures or modifies living tissue, this includes Acne which is a skin disease which may be misdiagnosed and mistreated by estheticians operating in Medspas without a doctor on site. Not all Acne is Acne Vulgaris (common). There are many dangerous imposters and many different causes or types which must have accurate diagnosis and careful treatment. Selling procedure packages and expensive products and peels is not the proper treatment and may be dangerous. Ultimately, who is responsible if there is a complication or delay in diagnosis of a serious condition resulting from services provided at a “medspa”? Who do you complain to if there is a problem? What is the medical director’s board-certification? How far away is the doctor’s own practice in case there is an emergency? How many other locations, especially independent “medspa”s does the doctor contract with? Never get LASER or injectable treatments in Salons or Studios by traveling nurses and rented equipment. What equipment is being used and who is responsible for maintaining it? Who is the provider of the malpractice liability insurance for the location and the doctor that is taking responsibility for your treatment? These are just some questions to ask BEFORE you get treatment. Its better to do your due diligence before consenting to a medical grade treatment with potentially serious complications than feign outrage after there is a complication. Each person is responsible for their own health when requesting elective procedures. Don’t let the medspa owner or medical directors’ greed get in the way of that.
